Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee Warn About An EMP Attack In America

A serious issue that continues to come up in current news and politics is the growing threat of an EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) attack in America.  For a growing number of politicians, scientists, and CIA officers it has become their mission to not only warn the American public about this critical threat; they’re also trying to get congress, President Obama, and his administration to do something …anything to secure our country’s aging power grid. Right now the power grid is completely vulnerable to an EMP or coordinated attack by terrorists, as well as a natural event, like a solar flare.

Recently, two Presidential candidates joined the group of concerned politicians in Washington warning about the threat an EMP poses on the USA – Mike Huckabee and Ben Carson. Both men are trying to get the government to secure the power grid so the Unites States fixes it’s current vulnerability to a long-term, nationwide blackout (which would follow a EMP attack or solar flare).

After announcing his intent of seeking the GOP nomination, Mike Huckabee described an EMP attack as an event that “could fry the entire electrical grid and take this country back to the Stone Age in a matter of minutes.”

Retired neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson, also began warning Americans about an Electro Magnetic Pulse after announcing his run for President. Dr. Carson said, “The other thing that worries me significantly is [an] EMP – electro-magnetic pulse. There have been mentions by North Korea, China, and Russia about using such techniques, so it’s not out of the question. And what could happen? Particularly with an electric grid that is outdated?”

Dr. Carson also said that an EMP strike might happen “naturally or intentionally”. It could happen intentionally if a terrorist group or rouge nation detonated an EMP weapon in (or above) America and it could happen naturally if a magnetic solar storm (i.e. Solar Flare or Coronal Mass Ejection – CME) produced an EMP over the United States. A Geomagnetic storm like this would have the same effect as an EMP weapon and wipe out our antiquated power grid.

Dr. Carson said that recent scientific reports have concluded that an EMP from the Sun (i.e. solar flare and Coronal Mass Ejection) is due to hit Earth every 150 years or so.  The last happened 155 years ago, so we are overdue (*hear audio from Dr. Carson’s speech in the video below – Article continues below video…).

Both presidential candidates, Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee, are planning on making our country’s power grid security part of their Presidential platform if elected. Both men agree that we’ve let our country’s energy grid deteriorate for far too long. In fact, our power grid blacks out more than any other developed nation’s grid in the world.

Other prominent figures in Washington are warning about this threat as well. Frank Gaffney, former President of the Center for Security Policy, is one of them. He recently said the threat of an EMP is “increasingly frightening”. He’s also been urging the federal government (as well as state governments) to take steps towards protecting the grid. Unfortunately, his words have fallen on deaf ears because many politicians aren’t getting enough pressure from the American public to make “grid security” part of their political platforms yet. Hopefully, with politicians like Dr. Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee, as well as prominent intelligence officers like Frank Gaffney, warning Americans about our grid’s vulnerabilities, more and more of the general public will start to put pressure on our politicians to make grid security a priority.

The Washington Examiner also reported earlier this year that “Iran endorses [a] nuclear EMP attack on [the] United States.” In the report they mentioned this “endorsement” was found in an Iranian military handbook. This literature discussed an attack in America at 20 different sites.

Unfortunately, the blackout threat grows every day and our country’s power grid continues to rapidly age without the proper EMP protections built into it.  Even terrorist groups are posing a threat to our grid. Dr. Peter Pry, a former CIA officer, executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security, and director of the U.S. Nuclear Strategy Forum, recently said, “There is an imminent threat from ISIS to the national electric grid”.

With more and more politicians, CIA officers, and scientists warning about the threat of an EMP daily, when will our elected representatives, the President and his administration take this threat serious? We hope soon.
